Bathrobes aren’t generally considered an essential item in anyone’s wardrobe. That doesn’t mean, of course, that they don’t have a place in your closet.
I think most women would agree that, while bathrobes aren’t strictly necessary, they are far more luxurious and comfortable than a simple towel. Wearing a good bathrobe is liking hugging yourself after a shower, and can be a welcome way to start the day.
While not all women are particularly discerning, this guide is for those of you who want nothing but the best – either for yourselves or your partner, for those men of you who aren’t Mel Gibson and don’t know what women want. (Actually, I think Mel Gibson is the only man who does know.)
Bad jokes aside, we have compiled ten of the coziest, cuddliest and most comfortable bathrobes known to man and put them in this guide to help you find them.
I can’t promise I won’t make anymore bad jokes, however.
Things to Consider
I’ve never thought all that much about bathrobes in the past. Having put some serious though and research into it lately, however, I’ve learned that there’s more to buying a bathrobe than I would have thought. There are quite a few things you should keep in mind while buying a bathrobe. Here are five of the most important things to consider.
Hands down, one of the most important aspects of a bathrobe is whether its comfortable. Comfort is the whole point of wearing a bathrobe, after all. As far as bathrobes go, the more luxurious, the better.
A lot of bathrobes are made out of natural cotton, which is soft, plush and comfortable. Some people may be allergic to cotton, however. If you are, you’ll want to look for a hypoallergenic fabric for your bathrobe.
Another reason women wear bathrobes is to stay warm and dry after emerging from a warm, humid bathroom into their bedroom. Thus, the thicker the bathrobe, the better.
Fashion is king, even where bathrobes are concerned. Sure, a fashionable bathrobe is nowhere near as important as cute shoes or a trendy skirt. But fashionable women want to look fashionable even when they leave the shower.
For every woman who likes to shop at American Eagle, there’s another woman who’d rather shop at Target. Not everyone likes to spend a lot on clothes so that bathrobe prices can vary dramatically. Most of them are less than $75.

Seven Apparel Hotel Spa Collection Popcorn Jacquard Bath Robe
Bathrobes aren’t complicated. There’s not a lot of things to worry about when whopping for a bathrobe, and the stakes aren’t very high. Is it comfortable? Is it soft? Does it look nice? Any bathrobe worth a dime is going to fit all of the above, leaving only one box left unchecked: does it fit your budget?
If you are looking for a simple bathrobe that is soft, comfortable, cozy and attractive, the Spa Collection Robe from Seven Apparel should fit your bill. This bathrobe is made out of polyester and is available in six bright colors, including aqua, baby blue, lavender, and magenta. The robe is available for less than $20, which is another plus.
On the other hand, this bath robe is only available in one size, 39 inches long. Bathrobes are generally loose and flowing, so the limited size won’t be a problem for most women. However, the robe may be too big for women who are shorter or especially petite and may not be large enough for taller or larger women. Still, there’s nothing wrong with this robe, and most women won’t have a problem with the size.
Seven Apparel Hotel Spa Collection Herringbone Textured Plush Robe
This second bathrobe from Seven Apparel is very similar to the last one I reviewed. Like the other robe, it is made out of microfiber polyester, but it is somewhat larger, is made in a different design and features a large pocket.
This robe is available in the same six colors as the other robe from Seven Apparel. It features a similar style self-belt and is available in one size, a knee-length (for most women) 41 inches.
Again, its main problems are that it is one-size-fits-all and may not fit as smugly as some women would prefer. It also lacks the durability of cotton and may shed. Still, if you’re looking for a cheap bathrobe, this isn’t a terrible choice.
Best Bathrobes For Women Under $50
Intimo Women’s Plush Robe
If you’re looking for a comfortable, oversized women’s robe than you might enjoy the Intimo Intimo Women’s Plush Robe. This attractive polyester robe comes in four colors (each priced somewhat differently) that each sport a unique plaid design that makes them very attractive to look at.
This is a very large robe, which means that it will fit very loosely on shorter women. A petite lady around 5’0 should expect this robe to sit near her ankles, which may not be to every woman’s taste. However, this makes it an excellent gift for younger women, as they’re likely to continue growing in it.
This robe is especially nice for pregnant women who are struggling to find a bathrobe that fits them.
Soft, comfortable, and attractive, this robe has a lot going for it, but if you’re looking for a knee-length robe or a tighter fit, maybe for the beach or pool, chances are you’re going to want to look elsewhere.
TowelSelections Aster Collection terry cloth
The first of four robes I reviewed from TowelSelections, the Lilac Collection is already a step up from the previous entries for one simple reason: it’s made out of cotton instead of polyester. Because cotton is all-natural, it’s better for the environment, and it’s also softer and more durable, as it’s not going to shed like some polyester robes.
This robe isn’t just made out of cotton, however. It’s made out of Turkish cotton. Grown in the coastal regions of the Aegean Sea, Turkish cotton is synonymous with luxury, which means you can be assured that you’re buying high-quality cotton. The robe is nice and thick and has two front pockets, and is designed for a unisex fit for both men and women.
The bathrobe comes in five sizes from extra-small to large and is also available in nine different colors: loden frost (a greenish hue), patriot blue, storm gray, ice blue (a very light shade), Niagara blue, and shell, ice pink, rose wine and white. The only problem with this robe is that it doesn’t hold up well when washed in a machine and will start to fray after just a couple of washes. This is a nice, comfortable bathrobe, but you’re going to want to hand wash it.
TowelSelections Magnolia Collection terry cloth kimono
I’ll be honest with you. I have a hard time telling the Magnolia Collection kimono-style terry robe apart from the Lilac Collection. They look practically identical, from the style of the neckline down to the hems. It even has two pockets on the front, just like the Magnolia.
They are both made in Turkey with genuine Turkish cotton, and they’re both longer bathrobes designed to hang around the ankles. As near as I can tell, the only differences are that the Magnolia collection comes in a different variety of colors and is available one size larger than the Lilac robes. In every other regard, they are practically indistinguishable. That said, I think the color selection of the Magnolia robes is superior.
They come in a deep sea, dusty olive, ginger spice, desert sand, green lake, pink nectar, violet storm, twilight blue, white, ivory (a nice off-white) and blue.
This is a very nice robe that comes in a variety of nice colors and an assortment of sizes. However, like the Lilac collection, it doesn’t always hold up well in the washer, even on the appropriate setting. Since it’s so similar to the last robe, you’d do well to ask yourself if its worth a few extra dollars.
TowelSelections Super Plush Hooded fleece robe
TowelSelections really knows how to make a nice bathrobe. On the one hand, I’m a little sad that, although this is still made in Turkey, it’s made with fleece rather than Turkish cotton. On the other hand, it’s soft, plush, absorbent and doesn’t unravel when you wash it, so maybe that’s a good thing after all.
It’s very similar in style to the last two robes but at the same time quite different. It is much thicker and warmer, and the fleece is very warm and comfortable. Like the other robes, it too has large front pockets and sits about the ankles.
It is available in four sizes from extra-small to large and is available in 18 different colors: Vista blue, garnet red, peacock blue, hot pink, aqua green, green lake, bijou blue violet storm, coffee, red, strong blue, navy, charcoal, pink, lavender, purple, white, and aspen gold.
Alexander Del Rossa Women’s Warm Fleece Robe
If you’re looking for an eye-catching fleece bathrobe, look no further. You’re sure to stun in one of these gorgeous Alexander Del Rossa robes. They are available in four sizes: small/medium, large/extra-large, XXL/XXXL and XXXL/XXXXL.
The robes have an extra thick neckline, large hems on the sleeves and a very pleasing double belt loop sash. Even more pleasing are the gorgeous designs. Not only do the Alexander Del Rossa robes come in 14 eye-popping colors, many of them feature unique and feminine designs specific to each color. You can choose a basic color such as magenta, baby blue, lavender, pink and black or get fancy with one of the most colorful designs.
Cream and pink stripes, flowers on teal, multicolored flowers on navy blue, pink with white polka dots and gray with white snowflakes are just four of nine charming designs. No matter how you shake it, these bathrobes are warm and inviting. Whether you want something to wear at the pool or beach or just around the home, Alexander Del Rossa is a perfect fit.
Jockey Women’s Robe
The Jockey women’s bathrobe is a step back from the fleece luxury of the previous two, aiming instead for a simpler, more fashionable look. This three-quarter sleeve robe has a semi-revealing v-neck line and is much shorter than previous robes, stopping at the knee or just above.
The robe is made out of pure cotton and is machine washable. The lightweight design is perfect for summer wear or for any time you want to feel loose and free. It’s machine washable and won’t come apart even after repeated washes. Although it is lightweight, it is very soft and comfortable.
Unfortunately, the robe is only available in two sizes – small and extra-large – and one color: eggplant. The color is actually very pleasing to the eye, but the size chart may well pose a problem for women in between those two extremes. As this robe fits much closer than some of the other robes, you may have trouble feeling comfortable in a robe outside of your preferred size.
Best Bathrobes For Women Under $75
TexereSilk Bamboo Viscose Robe
If you’re looking for a luxurious and exotic bathrobe, this terry cloth from Texere may fit the bill. It is made with 30% terry cotton and 70% bamboo viscose for a truly unique and exciting feeling. It is manufactured in China, which isn’t surprising considering its percentage of bamboo.
This long bathrobe features oversized pockets and fits below the ankles. It is available in four different sizes, measuring 47 to 50 inches long, and is available in nine pastel colors: natural white, lily green, almond buff, lavender fog, pewter, rose red, barely pink, earthy pink and Kashmir blue.
It is suitable for machine washing in cold water, but dryer sheets should be avoided as it can decrease the absorbency of the robe. All in all, this is a very nice, comfortable robe made of quality materials. The robe is a little on the pricier side, but the quality of the material is definitely worth it.
TowelSelections Jasmine Collection luxury bathrobe
We conclude this list with our final TowelSelections entry, which is once again made out of Turkish cotton. Like the Lilac and Magnolia Collections, this too is a terry robe, but it’s a somewhat different design. The neckline is thicker and more pronounced, and the hemline running the length of the robe is thicker.
In fact, the whole robe is thicker and more luxurious than the Lilac and Magnolia bathrobes, and the difference in quality is evident – this robe does not fray in the wash like the others sometimes did. In fact, the quality of this robe is all around amazing. For the first time, I truly understand why Turkish cotton is so sought after.
The robe is available in four sizes and comes in twelve different colors: African violet, red, purple, blush, white, rain, navy, and taupe. It is a bathrobe with a shawl collar that grabs your attention due to its tremendous style and comfortable feel. The TowelSelections Turkish Cotton Bathrobe Shawl Collar Terry Robe is a durable, soft, and high-quality item that is manufactured in Turkey.
It is available in 4 different sizes; large/X- large, medium/large, small/medium, and X-small/small. You can wash this robe in a machine. It is available in many colors such as African violet, red, purple, blush, white, rain, navy blue, blue ashes, center blue, thistledown (yet another shade of blue) and taupe.
The Jasmine Collection from TowelSelections is easily one of the finest bathrobes I’ve ever worn. It’s superior in the material to fleece and feels simply divine.
There are no right or wrong answers here. A bathrobe should make you feel comfortable and happy, and as long as it accomplishes that, it’s done what it’s supposed to do. Whether your robe is made out of fleece or Turkish cotton doesn’t matter all that much at the end of the day, and even being made of cotton doesn’t guarantee a superior product.
Whether you love the luxury of TowelSelections or prefer the comforting fleece and feminine designs of Alexander Del Rossa, all that really matters is that you’re happy. The rest is inconsequential.
