The 10 Best Pregnancy Pillows

When my wife was pregnant with our son, she went online and bought a pregnancy pillow. She was using my card, of course, which is why I try not to let her have access to it because she does a lot of impulse shopping. I blame Pinterest.

Nevertheless, when your wife is eight months pregnant, sometimes you have to take one for the team.

Anyway, my wife loved her pillow. I didn’t see the appeal, but I wasn’t pregnant. However, this made me very curious as to what pregnancy pillows were.

This guide was originally published some time ago, but I went ahead and expanded it with a couple of newer selections that have come out recently. My wife isn’t pregnant anymore, but she still loves them and was happy to help me choose the best pregnancy pillows.

Queen Rose U-Shaped Pregnancy Pillow

So, with no further ado, here is our list of the best pregnancy pillows out there. If you get one and don’t like it, I encourage you to simply try another one. After all, every woman and every pregnancy are different, and there is never a one-size-fits-all solution.

Things to Consider

If you’re wondering what to look for in a pregnancy pillow, the most important things are that they are comfortable and support your weight and posture properly. Getting a good night’s sleep when you’re pregnant can be a challenge, and pregnancy pillows are designed to support your body to maximize your sleep potential. Anything that helps you get there is a good deal.

1. Ergonomic

We usually talk about ergonomic about an office chair or something, but it can also apply to a pregnancy pillow. Although the ergonomic design of a pregnancy pillow is intended solely for the comfort of pregnant women, that doesn’t make the designs any less ergonomic.

2. Comfort

Any good sleeping pillow should be firm enough to support your head whole also soft enough to relax your neck. In the case of a pregnancy pillow, softness is very important, because it isn’t just your neck and head but your whole body that needs to be relaxed.

3. Material

Chances are your pillow is going to be one of two things: polyester or cotton, or perhaps a hybrid of the two. As you probably know from wearing shirts, cotton breathes better, so unless you’re allergic, a cotton pillow will most likely perform better. It’s not set in stone, however.

4. Design

Pregnancy pillows come in a variety of designs, from Google designs to wedges and simply long, body-length pillows. Test them out beforehand if you can, but if not, you know your body. Trust your instincts.

5. Price

Most pregnancy pillows are going to be between $20 and $100, with the best pillows somewhere in between that margin. Usually, I don’t advise people to spend more than they should, but if you’re having trouble sleeping and you think a more expensive pillow will help, go ahead and splurge. A healthier you means a healthier baby, and that’s worth an extra $20 on your credit card.

Boppy Pregnancy Wedge

Boppy Pregnancy Wedge

Features

  • Great budget and/or travel-friendly option
  • Manufactured in China
  • Features a 100% cotton machine-washable cover
  • In a wedge shape to provide support to the stomach

I know that I advised women to splurge on a pregnancy pillow if they can, but I also realize that some women simply can’t afford to do so, especially if they’re working on a single income. But just because you don’t have a lot of extra cash laying around, that doesn’t mean you can’t get a good pregnancy pillow.

If you’re on a limited budget, Boppy makes several inexpensive, smaller pillows that don’t take up a huge amount of room. The first one I recommend is the Boppy Pregnancy Wedge could be perfect for you. It is manufactured in China with a machine-washable Pima cotton slipcover.

This isn’t a full body pillow, but rather like a slice of cheese, and you wedge it underneath your belly to give it some lift and support. This helps to relax you, and it also helps your stomach to breathe, which means a more restful, comfortable night’s sleep.

Pros
  • Easily affordable for anyone on a budget
  • Compact size is convenient
  • 100% cotton cover
Cons
  • Does not cradle your whole body like a full-size pregnancy pillow

Boppy Bump and Back Geo Circles Pregnancy Support Pillow

Boppy Bump and Back Geo Circles Pregnancy Support Pillow

Features

  • Unique design with two individual cushions either end of a thick cloth band
  • Great budget and/or travel-friendly option
  • Features a knitted jersey machine-washable cover
  • Supports the stomach area

The Boppy Bump and Back is another budget-friendly option. This uniquely designed pregnancy pillow Two individual cushions are connected by a thick cloth band. It’s unique design allows it to support your body in several different positions, so you can give extra attention to whatever might be bothering you on a particular night.

Like the Boppy Pregnancy Wedge, the Bump and Back don’t take up a lot of space, making it convenient for small apartments or traveling. It’s designed for women who sleep on their side (the ideal sleeping posture for women later in their pregnancy) and can be placed under the belly by the legs to provide extra support their.

This versatility makes it especially practical, as sometimes different areas are sore or ache. Both the pillow and cover is machine washable.

The cover is removable and is made with jersey, a knitted fabric comprised of wool, cotton and various synthetic fibers. Like the pregnancy wedge, this does not provide support to your whole body, but it is certainly better than trying to sleep with just a standard pillow.

Pros
  • Easily affordable for anyone on a budget
  • Compact size is convenient
  • Knitted jersey cover
Cons
  • Does not cradle your whole body like a full-size pregnancy pillow

Queen Rose U-Shaped Pregnancy Pillow

Queen Rose U-Shaped Pregnancy Pillow

Features

  • U-shaped full-body design provides head-to-toe comfort and support
  • Cover is made with 100% pure cotton
  • Comes with a removable and machine-washable cover
  • Available in three different colors

Finally, a U-shaped pregnancy pillow that’s made with pure cotton instead of polyester or mixed fibers! The Queen Rose pregnancy pillow is currently the best-selling maternity pillow on Amazon, and for a good reason. Cotton fibers are lighter than synthetic fibers, improving airflow and leading to a more comfortable sleep.

I’ve said a lot about the U-shaped design already, so I’m not going to belabor the point. It can be useful for providing a comfortable sleep not just for pregnant women but anyone suffering a variety of chronic conditions.

Thanks to a 100% cotton cover, this pillow breathe better than most covers found on similarly priced pillows, which is a big plus. The case zips on and off and is machine washable. The pillow is available in three different colors.

Pros
  • Unique design supports both back and belly
  • Helps facilitate a better night’s sleeping
  • 100% cotton cover
Cons
  • None

PharMeDoc Pregnancy Pillow, U-Shape Full Body Pillow

  • Measures 53” x 31” x 7”

This U-shaped full-body pregnancy pillow has almost 7,000 positive Amazon reviews that all claim that it provides great support from head to toe, particularly focusing on your back, knees, hips, neck, and head. At 53 inches, it should be long enough for most women to use comfortably.

It features a detachable extension that can either be attached to the main body pillow for additional stomach or back support, or used as a separate pillow. This is a great feature that provides maximum versatility and ensures that you’re getting your money’s worth.

The cover is made from 100% jersey knit cotton, so it’s beautifully soft and gentle on your skin. Plus, it is easily removable and can be machine washed. It’s available in multiple different colors: gray, light gray, velvet gray, champagne, pink, pink and blue, and light blue.

Best Pregnancy Pillows Under $75

Leachco Snoogle Total Body Pillow

Leachco Snoogle Total Body Pillow

Features

  • The number-one bestselling pregnancy pillow on the market
  • Designed by a nurse and expectant mother
  • C-shape provides support to legs, back, hips, and stomach
  • Comes with a polymer cover

I’ve mentioned the Leachco Snoogle a couple of times already, and I’m finally here. The Snoogle is the #1 bestselling pregnancy pillow on Amazon and probably just about everywhere else, too. It is designed by keeping all the comforts and discomforts of pregnant women in mind.

This special attention – the pillow was designed by a nurse and an expectant mother – allowed Leacho to create a pillow that specially conforms to a pregnant woman’s body.

As you can imagine, the arrival of this pillow was much appreciated by the thousands (tens of thousands?) of women who bought it. The C shape of this pillow supports your legs, back, hips and tummy, helping to take the pressure off the individual areas of your body. By distributing your body weight evenly, it gives you a much better nights sleep and goes a long way towards removing a lot of aches and pains.

As much as this pillow works, there’s one thing I don’t like about it. The cover it ships with is made out of polyester, which is much less free than cotton and does not breathe as well. Leacho knows this and sells a cotton cover separately for $30. I wish they would have just included the cotton cover with this one. I doubt it costs them to make what they’re selling it for.

Pros
  • Unique design supports both back and belly
  • Helps facilitate a better night’s sleeping
Cons
  • Polyester sheet does not breathe as well as cotton

Meiz U-Shaped Pregnancy Body Pillow

Meiz U-Shaped Pregnancy Body Pillow

Features

  • U-shaped full-body design provides head-to-toe comfort and support
  • Cover is made with soft velvet, removable, and machine washable
  • Measures 55” x 30.7” x 6.3”
  • Comes in multiple different color options

This is another great U-shaped full-body pregnancy pillow that provides direct support to the areas pregnant women need it to, especially the head, stomach, back, sides, hips, and feet. This is bound to give you head-to-toe comfort when you need it the most.

Measuring 55 inches in length, 30.7 inches in width, and 6.3 inches in height, it’s slightly longer and wider than some of the other similar products on the market, so may be a little better for taller women.

The soft velvet cover is easily removed and can be machine washed, which is handy. However, the fact that it’s not cotton means that it’s slightly less breathable than other options. This is its main downfall, in my opinion – for the price, you’d think they could use a natural material.

It comes in white, gray, light gray, blue, pink and blue, and blue and gray, which is a good selection and should have something for everyone. With almost 2,000 positive Amazon reviews, this is one of the more popular pregnancy pillows currently on the market.

Pros
  • Offers full-body support (slightly longer than other pregnancy pillows)
  • Available in multiple different colors
  • Cover is removable and machine washable
Cons
  • Velvet does not breathe as well as cotton

Leachco Back ‘N Belly Contoured Body Pillow

Leachco Back ‘N Belly Contoured Body Pillow

Features

  • U-shaped full-body design provides head-to-toe comfort and support
  • Comes with a removable and machine-washable polymer cover
  • Designed by a nurse and expectant mother
  • The shape and design helps to facilitate a good night’s sleep

Comfort is one of the biggest demands of pregnant women. All the time they feel discomfort in many body parts, and the Leachco Back ‘N Belly Contoured Body Pillow is designed to provide them with some relief. There is nothing better than a soft, comfortable pillow for a woman who is in pain, or who struggles to get a good night’s sleep every night.

This pillow can do far more than just relieve aches and pains, however. It’s special design can help reduce acid reflux, carpel tunnel, fibromyalgia, congestion, sciatica, and heartburn, among another thing. It comes with a removable polyester cover.

This is more or less the same as the Snoogle. It has some design improvements intended to increase the therapeutic properties of the pillow, but they still want an extra $30 for a cover they should be shipping it with in the first place.

Pros
  • Unique design supports both back and belly
  • Helps facilitate a better night’s sleeping
Cons
  • Polyester sheet does not breathe as well as cotton

Meiz 65″ Full Body Pregnancy Pillow

Meiz 65" Full Body Pregnancy Pillow

Features

  • U-shaped full-body design provides head-to-toe comfort and support
  • Cover is made with soft velvet, removable, and machine washable
  • Extra-long length for maximum comfort and support for even tall women
  • Comes in multiple different color options

The Meiz 65″ Full Body Pregnancy Pillow is almost exactly the same as the previous Meiz pregnancy pillow on this list – but with one very important difference. Instead of 55 inches, this is 65 inches, which means a whole 10 inches extra comfort, support, and stability.

For some women, this may not seem like a big deal – or even a necessity. For taller-than-average women, however – or those who just like a little extra stretch – this may be a game-changer. It’s unusual to find pregnancy pillows that are so big.

LIke the 55-inch Meiz pregnancy pillow, this features a soft velvet cover that can be easily removed and machine washed. However, the fact that it’s not cotton means that it’s slightly less breathable than other options and is its main downfall, in my opinion – especially considering the price.

It comes in white, gray, light gray, blue, pink and blue, and blue and gray, which again is a great selection that should have something for everyone.

Pros
  • Offers full-body support with a longer length than most other pregnancy pillows
  • Better suited to taller women
  • Cover is removable and machine washable
  • Available in multiple different colors
Cons
  • Velvet does not breathe as well as cotton

Today’s Mom Cozy Comfort Pregnancy Pillow

Today's Mom Cozy Comfort Pregnancy Pillow

Features

  • Improved seamwork for better all-round support than other similar pillows
  • Cover is a 50-50 blend of cotton and polymer
  • Cover is removable and machine washable
  • U-shaped full-body design provides head-to-toe comfort and support

Today’s Mom Cozy Comfort Pregnancy Pillow addresses and resolves a lot of the problems that have persisted with some of the other pillows. As great as Leacho is, certain design flaws in the seam don’t allow it to be as comfortable as it could be for the neck.

Today’s Mom addressed this concern by improving the seam work on their interpretation of a maternity pillow. The pillow was also designed to provide better lumbar support for a mother’s belly, better supporting her so she can have an even better sleep. Best of all, the cover is a composite blend of 50/50 polyester and cotton.

This cotton mix means it breathes a lot better, providing mothers with a lot more comfort. In short, this is a great, if somewhat pricey, maternity pillow that adequately addresses some of the shortcomings of a lot of the other pregnancy pillows on the market.

Pros
  • Unique design supports both back and belly
  • Helps facilitate a better night’s sleeping
  • 100% cotton cover
Cons
  • Somewhat expensive

Comfort U Total Body Support Pillow

Comfort U Total Body Support Pillow

Features

  • U-shaped full-body design provides head-to-toe comfort and support
  • Hypoallergenic, odourless, machine-washable, and dust mite-resistant polymer stuffing
  • No cover, but the whole pillow can be machine washed
  • Will not form lumps, flatten, or clump

This total body support pillow from Moonlight Slumber is the real deal. This is the pillow you’ve been waiting for, the one that deserves all the fuss that’s been made. This is the culmination of a perfect night’s sleep. I’m not sure what the cover is made out of. I don’t think it’s cotton, but it’s supposed to be 100% organic so it might be.

The filling for the pillow, however, is made of some new kind of synthetic fabric that breathes like you wouldn’t believe. Even more, the pillow can be thrown into the wash without clumping or breaking down, making it easier to clean than ever before. Comfort-U molds according to the shape of your body, providing the comfort you deserve. It supports your legs, hips, back, shoulders, and neck.

Besides the cozy sleeping, it provides great support for watching TV, reading books, and nursing. Comfort is hypoallergenic, fluffy, and soft. If you’ve been looking for the Holy Grail of pregnancy pillows, you’ve found it at last.

Pros
  • Unique design supports both back and belly
  • Helps facilitate a better night’s sleeping
  • Special material helps you breathe better
Cons
  • Somewhat expensive

Conclusion

At the end of the day, my most glowing reviews are for the pregnancy pillows some women might struggle to afford. Just because you don’t buy the best doesn’t mean you can get a good night’s sleep, however.

Polyester sheets or not, the Leacho and Oversized pillows can go a long way towards improving your sleep, reducing pain and discomfort and potentially even easing chronic conditions. However, the U-shaped pillow from Queen Rose is your best bet, as it uses 100% cotton.

Whether you can spend $30 or $300, you deserve a better night’s sleep. Hopefully, this guide will help you find just the right pillow for you to become Sleeping Beauty.
