Okay, so maybe nobody actually says that. But if you have an iron, you also have need of an iron board.
I mean, have you ever tried ironing a shirt without one? I did when I was a freshman in college. Let’s just say it didn’t go very well.
That brings us to finding an iron board. Picking one out sounds like it would be a simple task. Then you walk into your neighborhood Bed, Bath, and Beyond or type “amazon.com” in your search bar and are greeted by dozens, if not hundreds of options. Who knew there were so many variations of an iron board?

Brabantia makes a very good ironing board. It has a lot of little things that recommend it, from the protective caps on the feet of the legs to the built-in rest for your iron.
Unless you’re well-versed in iron board shopping, you might feel a little overwhelmed by all the options. But buying an iron board isn’t rocket science. With the help of this guide, you’ll be ready to brave those impossibly diverse storefronts in no time.
Things to Consider
1. Dimensions
The length and width of the ironing board are probably the most important feature to look for. After all, the size of the board determines how much room you have to work. If your iron board is too small, you’re going to have to reposition your clothes constantly. However, you also want to make sure your board isn’t so big that you struggle to set up in your apartment.
2. Height
Second, in important to length and width, the ideal height of an iron board is a little more subjective, as it depends on the height of the user. Therefore, the best iron boards will have adjustable height, making them better suited to more people.
3. Stability
No one wants an iron board to collapse while they’re using a hot iron. That’s why stability is so important. There are a lot of different ironing boards with different designs, and some are a lot sturdier than others. Try to make sure your iron board locks into place in some way.
4. Material
Not all ironing boards are made from the same material. Generally speaking, you may not have to be too worried about it, but depending on what the board is made out of, you may want to get a cover for it. This will protect the surface and can improve your ironing experience.
4. Price
Everything comes down to price in the end, and how much ironing you do. If it’s just something, you do on occasion, getting a cheaper iron board may be perfect. If you iron every day, however, its probably a good idea to invest a little more in your board.

Honey-Can-Do Foldable Tabletop Ironing Board with Iron Rest
Features
- Iron board measures 17 H x 12 W x 32 L
- 100% cotton cover
- Comes with iron rest
The Foldable Tabletop Ironing Board with Iron Rest is a very basic board that is best suited for travel or for those who don’t iron much. It’s very short, and can be folded, so it has to be set up on a table or counter for it to work.
The iron board is less than 17 inches high. It is 12 inches wide and 32 inches long. This small size makes it challenging to iron bigger garments, but it is good for getting wrinkles out of your t-shirts or other small clothes you take with you on vacation. The iron board is covered with a padded cotton material that is ideal for ironing.
The small area also makes this table a good fit for sewing or other crafts. The legs are made of chrome and comes with the metal iron rest. This board is not suitable for any serious ironing needs, but it is small and inexpensive enough to be well suited for a small apartment or for ironing when you go on a trip. It comes with a carrying bag.

Homz ironing board T-Leg
Features
- Iron board measures 35 H x 13 W x 53 L
- 100% cotton cover
- Steel top
The Homz ironing board T-Leg is different to the one previously reviewed. It is larger and is tall enough to be placed on the floor. It is more than twice as wide as the last board, providing a lot more room for ironing.
This ironing board is 35 inches high inches, 13 inches wide and 53 inches long, offering enough room to iron t-shirts, skirts, and many other garments. It is also a lot more durable than the last board. The board is made of steel that has a cotton cover with a foam pad. This one doesn’t have an iron rest.
This is still not going to be enough for your average household, but that isn’t really the market for an ironing board this size. As it is, this board is large enough to iron your clothes in a pinch, and that’s all you need.
Homz 4-Leg Steel Top Ironing Board
Features
- Iron board measures 35 H x 14 W x 54 L
- 100% cotton cover
- Steel top
Another one from Homz, the 4-Leg Steel Top Ironing Board looks a lot like the one my mom used when I was a kid. It’s fully functional, and it gets the job done, but it is very basic, like the previous one.
The legs are aluminum, and the cover is made entirely from cotton and padding. It provides a good surface on which to press and iron. The board is 54 inches long and 14 inches wide. It stands at 36.5 inches at the highest setting. The steel top is covered with foam pad and cotton cover. This isn’t the best iron board I reviewed, but it does very well for the price.
The legs felt a little wobbly, but the board never collapsed while I was using it, and it does have a locking mechanism. Both functional and affordable, this is a very popular board on Amazon and is probably your best bet if you have a limited budget.

The Minky Hot Spot ironing board is a good quality mid-priced ironing board perfect for most household uses. The ironing board takes its name from the movable hot spot that provides a safe, easy place to rest the iron without the risk of burning the cover or clothing.
This iron measures 15 inches by 48 inches, and its fully adjustable height goes all the way up to 36 inches, with any increment in between. The loop legs are fairly sturdy, but they can be a little wobbly sometimes. The ironing board is made with an iron grate with a cotton cover.

Brabantia Ironing Board with Steam Iron Rest
Features
- Iron board measures 38 H x 15 W x 49 L
- 100% cotton cover
- Child-safe lock eliminates wobbling
Brabantia makes a very good ironing board. It has a lot of little things that recommend it, from the protective caps on the feet of the legs to the built-in rest for your iron.
The ironing board is made with ivory legs and frame and a cotton cover. The board measures 49 by 15 inches. The board’s height is adjustable and can range from 30 to 38 inches in two-inch increments. One of the most important things to look for on a good ironing board is stability, and the Brabantia board does not wobble at all. It has a great locking system that keeps it very stable.
This is easily one of the best ironing boards I used, and definitely the best value. It is one of the most stable iron boards, making it a must-have for anyone serious about their ironing. Brabantia offers a ten-year guarantee on their ironing board, so there’s really nothing to lose.
Homz Durabilt DX1500 Premium Ironing Board
Features
- Iron board measures 39.5 H x 14.875 W x 54 L
- 100% cotton cover
- Features built-in iron rest
The DX1500 is another very stable ironing board. It’s not quite as pretty as the Brabantia – the leg design is a little oversized – but the board is very stable and offers a great ironing experience.
The board measures 54 by 15 inches and has an adjustable height that goes all the way to 39.5 inches. The padded surface is made of pure cotton. The front legs are large, but that helps provide them with a lot of stability, ensuring wobble-free ironing. The board comes with an iron rest to place your iron in between items of clothing.
I didn’t enjoy this board nearly as much as the Brabantia. I thought the cover on the Brabantia was better. But this is still a good ironing board, and I feel no qualms about recommending it to you.

Bartnelli Pro Luxury Ironing Board
Features
- Iron board measures 38 H x 12 W x 59 L
- 100% cotton cover
- Comes with iron rest
Another European made ironing board, this extra large board is perfect for anyone who does a lot of serious ironing. The board is sturdy and doesn’t wobble, it has a lot of room, and there is plenty of padding between the cotton cover and the metal frame.
The board measures 51 by 19 inches, and it adjusts in height between 30 and 38 inches. It has a very sturdy build and doesn’t wobble much. The board has a loop leg system, but a durable lock and protective feet keep it planted firmly on the ground.
This is a good ironing board that avoids being too expensive. I don’t really know what it has that the Brabantia board doesn’t, but you can’t go wrong buying this model.
Rev-A-Shelf VIB-20CR Vanity Fold-Out Ironing Board
Features
- Iron board measures 4 H x 21 W x 20 L
- Installs directly into your cabinet
- Super efficient storage
The last two ironing boards I reviewed are a little different from the rest of them. The VIB-20CR is a pull-out ironing board that has to be mounted in a drawer. This ironing board is perfect for laundry rooms and other facilities.
The board itself measures 21 by 20 inches. Due to its placement in a drawer, it isn’t as long as a standard ironing board, but it offers greater width to make up for it. The board itself is made of wood and doesn’t have a cover, so you may have to get your own cover.
My main complaint with this ironing board is that it can be difficult to install. I didn’t have too hard of time, but the instructions are also not the most clear. Still, I really like the idea behind this ironing board, and it is super efficient in terms of space. A good bet.

Hafele Wall Mounted Ironing Board
Features
- Iron board measures 11 7/8 W x 37 3/8 L
- Mounts directly to your wall
- Eliminates need for storage
Hafele’s wall-mounted ironing board offers another solution for the problem of iron board storage. This board is installed and mounted directly to the wall of your bedroom, laundry or wherever, freeing up closet space and making the iron board instantly accessible.
This board features a more traditional size than the VIB-20CR, measuring 37 3/8 x 11 7/8. Since the board is mounted on the wall, it can be installed to the ideal height of the primary user, making it very convenient. The board is made out of steel, is covered with epoxy, and comes with a cloth cover.
This is an excellent, durable ironing board that, thanks to its mounting, will never wobble. Installation can be a challenge, however, because the board weighs over 20 pounds. Therefore, it is essential to buy premium, durable mounting equipment to ensure a quality installation.
Conclusion
There are quite a few different ironing boards covered here. From small tabletop boards to specially mounted boards with innovative storage techniques, there are enough options here for every family and situation.
While we think the Brabantia is the best of these boards, we hope you are satisfied with whichever you choose. Let us know what you think!
