The 10 Best Baby Sippy Cups
Ah, the sippy cup. A lot of the purchases you have to make for your baby are serious.

High chairs, cribs car seats, strollers: all of these will affect the comfort and happiness of your baby, but your baby will probably be happy with whatever sippy cup you give her.

Unless she hates it, of course.

Now, you may or may not need to be guided through the process of selecting a sippy cup. I for one was tired of all the deliberation and bought the first cup I saw at Walmart. But maybe some of you are just too tired to browse through an endless selection of options. You want to know what’s good and you want to buy it now.

Unless, of course, you plan on impulse buying like I did. Go ahead. I won’t judge. I can’t say I blame you. Let’s get started, shall we?

Things to Consider

There’s not a lot of vital statistics to keep in mind here. I mean, you’re buying a sippy cup, not a used car. Still, there are a couple of things you should probably think about before you make your purchase.

1. Volume

None of these cups are going to be particularly large, but you might want to consider how much water they hold and contrast that with how much your little one likes to drink. Because you don’t want to have to refill q three-ounce cup every two hours.

2. Number of Cups

You don’t want just one cup. What happens if it gets dirty, or misplaced? You know that toddler is going to lose it at some point. Do you want to deal with the inevitable meltdown that occurs when she needs that exact specific cup or the world is going to end? No one does. Always have at least two cups. If you can get more than one cup in a single order, so much the better.

3. Color and Design

Kids like colorful things. Kids like cute things. Buying a cute, colorful cup is a sure, quick way to your little one’s heart. The unfortunate side effect? That cup and your little girl will become inseparable. God forbid the cup gets dirty. (Re: 2. Number of Cups)

4. BPA Free

This one is serious. If at all possible, try to buy a sippy cup that is BPA-free. After all, you don’t want those chemicals in your sports bottle. Do you really want it in your baby’s cup?

5. Price

This one isn’t serious because sippy cups are really cheap. At most, they might set you back ten bucks. That’s about the same price as an Extra Value Meal from McDonald’s. Are you really going to deprive your child for the cost of a Big Mac and fries?

The First Years Take & Toss Spill-Proof Sippy Cups

The First Years Take & Toss Spill-Proof Sippy Cups

Features

  • Comes in a pack of four
  • A variety of bright colors
  • 10-ounce cups

This set of sippy cups takes into account literally everything I said earlier. At ten ounces, they’re big enough to hold plenty of water for your little one. They’re bright, colorful and lovable. They come in a pack of four, so you always have a backup or two when one of them gets dirty. They’re BPA-free, so you know no harmful chemicals will seep into the water. And they cost less than two bucks.

In all seriousness, these are not the best sippy cups on the market. They’re cheaply made, and they’re honestly pretty disposable – which is actually used as a selling point because they’re so affordable.

In fact, there’s really no good reason not to buy these cups. They don’t have to be the only ones you buy, but they’re so inexpensive that you might as well. It’s always good to have a backup. It just might prevent a tantrum.

Pros
  • Comes in a pack of four
  • Extremely affordable
  • Sturdy
Cons
  • Partially leakproof

NUK Disney Large Learner Sippy Cup

NUK Disney Large Learner Sippy Cup

Features

  • Comes in a single pack
  • Features Mickey Mouse
  • 5-ounce cup

Mickey Mouse has come to help your child make the transition from bottles to cups with his cheerful countenance. This brightly colored cup has two easy-grip handles and a soft, spill-proof spout that is easy for babies whose teeth are still coming in. The spout is protected from germs when not in use by a handy plastic cover.

Made without BPA, completely leak free and dishwasher-safe, this is a great sippy cup to aid that early transition along. My only real complaint is that, at five ounces, it really doesn’t hold a lot of water, even for a little guy like my son. Although I suppose this cup is geared towards younger than two.

Still, if it were just a couple ounces larger, I would have liked this a lot better. But everyone has different drinking habits, and this is a very well-made sippy cup. It only meets three of my five criteria for the perfect sippy cup. But those are really guidelines rather than rules anyway.

Pros
  • Nice design
  • Affordable
  • Sturdy
Cons
  • Issues with the spout

Philips AVENT My Little Sippy Cup

Philips AVENT My Little Sippy Cup

Features

  • Comes in a pack of two
  • Cheerful, playful penguins
  • 7-ounce cups

These cups and the next ones on the list from Philips Avent are probably my personal favorite, mainly because I like penguins and my son likes penguins. In fact, I bought one of each set for my son so he could enjoy all the penguins. While this set is intended for girls and the second set is geared for boys, they’re perfectly fine for either gender as long as your kid isn’t too picky (no guarantees there!).

As far as designs go, these are probably the cutest little cups I’ve ever seen. The purple cup depicts a little penguin snorkeling, and the pink cup depicts a penguin listening to music on her headphones. As far as the cups themselves, they each hold seven ounces, which is a little small but not too terrible.

They have soft-grip handles that make them easy to hold, along with spill-proof valves. Certified BPA-free and dishwasher-safe, the parts of these cups are even interchangeable with the blue My Penguin sippy cups.So we have two colorful, seven-ounce BPA-free cups with cheerful visuals that cost less than ten dollars. Everything adds up.

Pros
  • Comes in a pack of two
  • Affordable
  • Angled spout design
Cons
  • Issues with the spout
  • Issues with leaking

Chicco Insulated Flip-Top Straw Spill Free Baby Sippy Cup

Chicco Insulated Flip-Top Straw Spill Free Baby Sippy Cup

Features

  • Comes in a pack of two
  • 9-ounce cups
  • PRICE RANGE: Under $10

These cute little cups from Chicco have an ergonomic design, so they make a good transition for those babies that are bottle-fed. This two-pack of cups comes in 3 pairs of different designs, so you can choose which one you like best.

These cups are carefully designed so that they’re easy to grip and hold, which is good for younger children still learning their grip. Moreover, they have double-insulated walls to keep the drinks warm or cool for longer. Also, the spill-proof lid with a straw ensures that your baby won’t get their juice all over their clothes, either. And, of course, these dishwasher-safe cups are BPA-free.

In short, these are nice, ergonomic cups for babies and young toddlers that are cute and easy to hold. They’re inexpensive, and they hold nine ounces of liquid. Once again, they meet all the criteria for a good sippy cup.

Pros
  • Comes in a pack of two
  • Affordable
  • Easy to clean
Cons
  • Issues with leaking

OXO Tot Transitions Soft Spout Sippy Cup with Removable Handles

OXO Tot Transitions Soft Spout Sippy Cup with Removable Handles

Features

  • Non-slip grip
  • 6-ounce cup
  • PRICE RANGE: Under $10

OXO Tot makes several different products for babies and children, including high chairs. This Transitions Soft Spout Sippy Cup is another of their fine products.

This cup comes with a hinged lid to avoid spills and accidents as well as a spout specifically tailored to facilitate an easy transition from bottle to cup. Also, it has removable non-slip grip handles which you can remove when your baby’s ready to hold the cup by herself. It comes with a choice of three different brightly colored lids. The cup holds six ounces and is BPA free.

I liked this cup, especially because it has markings for measurement. I think it does a very good job, but it does seem a little expensive for just one cup. I think some of the other cups work just as well and provide a better value as they include a set of two or more. This cup is perfectly fine, but it’s not my favorite.

Pros
  • Non-slip grip
  • Affordable
  • Easy to clean
Cons
  • Issues with leaking

Under $15

Simple Modern Kids Summit Sippy Cup Thermos

Simple Modern Kids Summit Sippy Cup Thermos

Features

  • Non-slip grip
  • 10-ounce cup
  • PRICE RANGE: Under $15

The colorful designs of Summit Sippy Cup Thermos are the perfect go-to cups for your toddler. They are larger than the last cups and come in multiple designs with differently-colored lids. Despite the difference, the lids are interchangeable. The cup is made of 18/8 stainless steel, meaning it holds the liquid cold or warm for hours.

Sippy lids, too have great features. They are leak-resistant and dishwasher-safe. easy-grip handles and an easy-to-drink biting spout. They are BPA-free. They’re almost the same price as the other Summit cups and you can change their lids no matter the size and shape of the bottle.

If you want a slightly larger cup for your young one, I recommend buying these cups over the other ones. If you prefer a more cheerful design, simply pick the one you like. Both sets function perfectly and neither threatens your bank account.

Pros
  • Double-walled
  • Sturdy
Cons
  • Not dishwasher safe
  • Issues with leaking

NUK First Essentials Sippy Cups

NUK First Essentials Sippy Cups

Features

  • Comes in a pack of two
  • Brightly colored and decorated with the alphabet
  • 9-ounce cups

These sippy cups are intended for toddlers who have already made the transition from a bottle but still find it easier to drink from the spout. These cups are brightly colored, and each features the alphabet written on the cup in different colored letters.

These 9-ounce cups have a leak-proof lid and are easy to drink from. They are BPA-free and certified dishwasher-safe. They are easy to hold and carry enough water or juice to keep your child hydrated for a long time. They’re also very reasonably priced, with each cup averaging around $6.

Pros
  • Comes in a pack of two
  • Leakproof
  • Durable
Cons
  • Slippery if wet

Thermos FOOGO Vacuum Insulated 10 Ounce Straw Bottle

Thermos FOOGO Vacuum Insulated 10 Ounce Straw Bottle

Features

  • Comes in a pack of two
  • A variety of bright colors
  • 10-ounce cups

These large, brightly colored sippy cups come in a random assortment of colors, but each set has two colored cups with differently colored lids. An ergonomic design makes them easy to hold and grip, and at 10 ounces they’re plenty large enough for most toddlers.

One of the things I like about these cups is the colors you get are random, so it’s like opening up a surprise. I’m sure you could make a game out of it with your child, and you could even use the different colored parts to quiz your toddler on her colors. The cups are BPA-free and have nice leak-free lids. They are also break-proof, so you’ll have to try really hard if you want to break one of these.

Pros
  • Insulated
  • Durable
Cons
  • Average quality
  • Issues with mold

Munchkin Cool Cat Stainless Steel Straw Cup

Munchkin Cool Cat Stainless Steel Straw Cup

Features

  • Non-slip grip handles
  • 8-ounce cup
  • PRICE RANGE: Under $15

The Munchkin Cool Cat Stainless Steel Straw Cup feels like a mix between a sippy cup and a thermos bottle. It’s an insulated steel bottle, for example, with a flip-top lid that opens up to reveal the drinking spout. It’s also small, colorful, and has a straw. So it’s a bit different.

Even though this bottle was a little more expensive, I really liked it because it’s so tough and durable. I mean, kids are pretty destructive, but there’s no way a toddler is going to break a stainless steel sippy cup. Unless your son happens to be Hercules, I think the cup will hold up.

Another thing I like is the cup is the cute frog lid in a strong color. When my son sees it, he immediately wants to grab it. This 8-ounce BPA-free bottle is perfect for a toddler. It keeps their juice cold, it’s a good size, and if nothing else, that button will keep them occupied for a while.

Pros
  • Insulated
  • Fun design
Cons
  • Not durable
  • Issues with mold

Under $20

Gerber Graduates Fun Grips Hard Spout Sippy Cup

Gerber Graduates Fun Grips Hard Spout Sippy Cup

Features

  • Comes in a pack of two
  • A variety of bright colors
  • 10-ounce cups

These Gerber Graduates sippy cups are very cute and colorful. Kids should love the bright, cheerful design. Their ergonomic, slip-free design makes it easy for little hands to hold on to them, and the leak- and spill-proof spouts are easy to drink from. The cups might come in random colors, but I doubt that will matter much.

As you would expect, these cups are BPA-free and perfectly safe to use in the dishwasher. One of the things I liked was that they have a little-personalized area where kids can put their name. This is good for kids who have siblings or who take their sippy cups with them to day care.At 10 ounces, these cups are good sized, and that’s a nice thing for me because I hate having to refill my kid’s cup constantly.

Really, there’s no reason not to recommend these cups. They come in a pack of two and thus cost less than $2.50 apiece. That’s what I like best about these cups.

Pros
  • Comes in a pack of two
  • Leakproof
  • Easy to clean
Cons
  • Not durable

Conclusion

Who knew there were so many different choices for sippy cups? Admittedly, picking a bad sippy cup is hardly as disastrous as picking a crib you hate. Still, if buying the right cup the first time avoids a 2 AM meltdown, it was worth it, right?

The Gerber cups are is a good choice for transition, and I personally loved the Chicco cups as well. I really liked the second cups because they’re cheaper than others on the list. Babies are expensive, so if I find an opportunity to be cheap without feeling guilty about it, I seize that opportunity.

The important thing, of course, is that your baby is happy. Hopefully, this list helped you find the right cup for your precious one!
